More than 50 Years making
Traditional Sweets

In 1969, Sacramento Soto arrived in Almagro from Barcelona with a dream and a rich experience in the bakery that led him to found El Cateto. His beginnings were in a small garage, making traditional sweets such as mantecados and empanadillas. Thanks to our focus on quality and customer service, we have been able to expand beyond Almagro, taking our products to different countries. Today, we offer a wide range of products, including sugar-free options, always inspired by our customers’ suggestions.

FAQs

The term “paleto” or “cateto” is usually associated with the rural and village world, where artisan traditions such as those we use to produce our sweets are still maintained. In addition, the use of the stereotype of the redneck is a frequent resource in popular culture and in the literature entremesil and sainetesca, very popular genres in the Spanish Golden Age, closely linked to our town, Almagro, and its famous Corral de Comedias, privileged witness of that golden age.

All our products are recognized by our customers for their excellent quality. Coconut Delights are one of our flagship products, due to the juiciness and quality of the Ceylon coconut, the basis of its preparation, in which we do not allow the use of potato starch. The fried rosquillo is another of our most demanded products, as it maintains the traditional flavor that continues to gain popularity among the new generations. Our traditional Manchego sweets are unrivaled and remain year after year as true stars of our catalog.

Aware of our customers’ demand for the possibility of consuming our products with the same quality, but without sugar, we have developed our main references also in this modality. We have, therefore, a wide range of more than 15 sugar-free references that you can consult in our catalog.

In spite of having an industrial production capacity, our processes remain traditional, maintaining the artisan production traditions that make our products authentic delicacies, while incorporating the strictest production and quality control systems.

In all our processes we incorporate manual elaboration where it is required and necessary to maintain unalterable quality and traditional flavor. This is the case, for example, of our Empanadilla de Cabello de Ángel, in which, in order to maintain its traditional quality, we continue cutting, filling and sealing it by hand. We have not yet figured out how to industrialize such delicate processes.

Although our portfolio is traditional, we are always looking for ways to innovate and develop new references or improve the current ones, faithful to our unalterable commitment to offer our customers the highest quality.

We are currently exporting our products to several countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, where our customers are increasingly valuing our quality and where we continue to grow year after year.

We will undoubtedly respond to the growing demand for our products with the necessary capacity expansions, while maintaining our traditional character and commitment to the highest quality.
